"Paul Dresher... a sort of musical Thomas Edison, retreating into his lab together with inventing partner Daniel Schmidt to conjure up fantastical new instruments – industrial-strength dobros, deconstructed pipe organs, gargantuan metronomes and more."
— Joshua Kosman, The San Francisco Chronicle
Sound Maze is an interactive experience of sound and mechanics, consisting of over a dozen newly invented musical instruments and sound sculptures that audience members are invited to interact with, explore and improvise upon.
This remarkable, hands-on interactive installation has been designed for audiences of all ages – regardless of musical experience – as well as people on the autism spectrum. Audience-participants are fully encouraged to engage, experiment with, and play these extraordinary inventions to discover new ways of creating sound and music.
Created and built by composer and instrument inventor Paul Dresher in collaboration with Alex Vittum and Daniel Schmidt, Sound Maze is designed to unleash the musical creativity of all our audience/performers, rewarding the curious but musically inexperienced as well as those who have a lifelong engagement with sound and music. Sound Maze is an invitation to listen, play and discover sound anew.
